"Discover America the way it was and is becoming again. Revel in its neon, motels, eateries, gas stations and roadside attractions. Meet the people that built, drove, lived and worked on this historic road. Visit with the people that tour it today from around the world. But most of all unite with us in the preservation of this important piece of our rich history."

Jim Conkle, Executive Director,
California Route 66 Preservation Foundation

Once long ago in the mid 1930s a young bride stepped off the train at the El Garces Train Depot in Needles and began a journey that would impact all of us interested in the Mother Road today. Maggie McShan began a love affair with Needles and Route 66 that would span almost seven decades. In 1962 Maggie began writing local interest columns for the San Bernardino Sun. These stories of the people and places along the Mother Road led to publish her own Footprints Magazine in 1973. She continues to volunteer at the Needles Museum and is involved in many local organizations. Maggie was instrumental in getting the El Garces Harvey House listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
